Comentario del propio artista acerca de su obra.
MI PINTURA.
Mi pintura es como contar un cuento;
Un cuento a partir de una observación,
Es sacarle el velo a una parte de la realidad
Para que se convierta en noticia...
Las historias que presento hablan de la luz;
para ello me valgo de ciertos reflejos, de transparencias,
o de otras cosas que ocurren
mas allá de la mera descripción de los hechos...
Así, cuento cómo tiñó la luz a la bahía
Esa tarde de invierno, antes de la tormenta;
O bien tomo la misma escena, a diferentes horas del día;
También digo que los colores transitan sobre el mar,
Por momentos lo impregnan,
entonces la bahía de Valparaíso no tiene nunca el mismo
color...
Estas son, para mí, cosas hondas, de una gran simplicidad.
En fin, las metáforas son vuestras.
Después de tanto, sigo siendo un convencido,
que el pintor piensa con el ojo;
de una manera moderna, siempre moderna, obviamente.
My Painting.
My painting is like telling a story
a story that comes from a observation,
is like to unveil a part of reality
so it will become news...
The stories I show talk of light;
for that I use reflections, transparencies,
or other things that happen
beyond the mere description of the facts...
Like this, I tell; how the light colored the bay
on that winter evening, before the storm;
or I take the same scene, at a different time of a day;
I also tell about the colors going over the sea
and, for a moment, they become part of it,
thus Valparaíso bay will never have the same color...
All these, are for me, profound things of great simplicity.
Then, the metaphores will be yours.
After so much, I am still convinced
That the painter thinks with the eye,
In a modern way, always modern, obviously.

La pintura de Felipe Mercadal es de una delicadeza infinita. Ni totalmente
figurativa ni totalmente abstracta, el artista sintetiza en planos los
colores, las luces, las sombras, los reflejos y hasta las visiones simultáneas
de un mismo paisaje a diferentes horas del día, entregándonos
una visión sintética del panorama que a diario vé
quién vive en nuestras costas desde su ventana. Y que además
cuenta con la sensibilidad necesaria para admirar la belleza de los cambios
cromáticos y de luminosidad de la atmósfera de cada día
para traspasarlos a sus trabajos.
Lo demás en las telas de Felipe Mercada, es pura poesía.
Felipe Mercadal paintings are from a total delicacy. Not a hundred
per cent figuratives, not totaly abstracted, the artist summarize to geometric
forms the colors, lights, darkness, reflections , including the simultaneous
visions of the same lansdscape in different hours of the day, giving
us the panoramic usually daily vision it has a person who lives in our
coast. And of course, from a person who has the necessary sensitivity to
admire those chromatic and brightness changes of the atmosphere of every
day, to translate them to his canvas.
The rest in the Felipe Mercadal work...... is only and completely
poetry.
CURRÍCULUM VITAE
NOMBRE:Felipe Mercadal Borghetti.
NACIONALIDAD: chileno
EXPOSICIONES Y PREMIOS:
SU TRAYECTORIA, CONTADA POR SÍ MISMO.
Nací en Valparaíso, Chile. Apenas terminaba mi escolaridad
estudié dibujo y pintura en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de Viña
del Mar; simultáneamente cursé algunos años de la
carrera de Filosofía en la Universidad de Chile. Posteriormente
ingresé a la Escuela de Arquitectura de la misma universidad,
donde en 1976, me titulé con distinción.
Desde tempranamente vengo participando en diversas exposiciones
individuales y colectivas, obteniendo algunos premios. En 1972 expongo
en el Instituto chileno francés de Valparaíso, entidad que
me ofreció el cargo de asesor cultural, tarea que desempeñé
durante los años 1972 y 1973.
Ese mismo año envié muestras de mis trabajos a Francia,
Galería Jacques - Henry Perrin, París, y recibí ofertas
de publicación en la colección "Jóvenes artistas extranjeros",
Editions de la Tëte de Feuilles. He realizado también diversas
exposiciones en U.S.A., tales como en el "Village Gallery de Sacramento,
"The Art Works Gallery" de Half Moon Bay, y exposición individual
en la "Galería 1" de la Universidad de San José, San José,
California., etc.
En Enero de 1992 y Enero de 1994, subrogué la Jefatura del Departamento
de Arte y Cultura de la Ilustre Municipalidad de Viña del Mar, desde
donde comienzo a desarrollar una serie de actividades artístico
culturales tales como: Traer a la ciudad exposiciones de artistas de relevancia
mundial (Picasso, Goya, etc); proposición de un festival de música
selecta para Viña del Mar; mesas redondas, entrevistas en televisión,
etc.
A partir del mes de Marzo de 1994, pasé a desempeñarme
como Profesor Titular de la Escuela de Bellas Artes de la Ilustre Municipalidad
de Viña del Mar. En esa misma fecha, junto a dos pintores - muralistas,
fuimos comisionados por el maestro Oswaldo Guayasamín, para ejecutar
un mural en la ciudad de Viña del Mar.
El mes de Noviembre de este mismo año, La Universidad de Valparaíso
me encarga realizar la ilustración del libro "Azul" de Rumbeen Dardo,
tarea que se materializa a fines de 1997. Después siguen nuevas
publicaciones, exposiciones de mayor importancia, como en el Congreso Nacional
de Chile, otras entrevistas en televisión, etc.
En Julio del año recién pasado recibo la oferta de la
Misión Permanente de Chile ante la O.E.A., Washington D.C., para
exponer en la Sala Principal de la Organización.
ABOUT THE ARTIST.(By himself).
I was born in Valparaíso, Chile. As soon I finished the
school, I started studies of drawing and
Painting at the Viña del Mar Bellas Artes Academy. At the same
time I studied philosophy for a few years at the Chile University. Later
on I started my major in architecture, at the same university, and graduated
with honors in 1976.
I have participated in several one - man shows and groups. In 1972,
I showed my works at the Chilean-french cultural Institute of Valparaíso.
As a result, I was offered the position of Cultural Director for 1972 and
1973.
The same year, samples of my work were sent to the Jacques -
Henry Perrin Gallery in Paris, France, and received an offer to publish
them in the "Young Foreignn Artist" Collection, edition de " La Tëte
de Feuilles". I have also showed in the U.S.A., among other places,: "The
Village Gallery in Sacramento, "The Art Works Gallery" in Half Moon Bay,
"The Gallery One" at The Sain Joseph University in California.
Betwen the years 1992 and1994, I substituted for the Head of the Art
and Cultural Department in the I. Viña del Mar town council, where
I started cultural and artistic activities such as: Bringing world famous
exhibitions (Picasso, Goya, etc.); a proposal for a Classic Music Festival
for Viña del Mar, conferences, T.V. interviews and so on.
In March 1994, I was appointed Proffesor for the Bellas Artes Academy
of Viña del Mar City Council. In the same year, together with two
other mural painters, I was comissioned by the Valparaíso University,
to ilustrate the Rumbeen Dardo Book, titled "Blue", task that materialized
at the end of 1997.
After this, followed new publications, T.V. interviews, and a major
exhibition in the Chilean National Congress, among other.
This year, July, I was invited by the Chilean Permanent Mission to
the Organization of American States (O.A.S.), Washington D.C., to
show my works at their main exhibit room.
